Networking: Case Study
Seamless network modernization enhanced performance and scalability for a statewide healthcare organization with minimal downtime and cost.
Overview
When a statewide healthcare organization needed to replace aging, soon-to-be unsupported network hardware, Loial was brought in to design and execute a seamless modernization plan. Our team conducted a multi-day on-site survey, working hand-in-hand with the client’s IT leadership to map every network closet and data center component. The goal was to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability—without unnecessary cost or disruption.

1. Understand
We began gathering data with a state-wide healthcare organization to understand the needs to upgrade their existing and soon to be out-of-support network hardware. We met with their IT director to gather data on pain-points with their current infrastructure as well as determine future needs.

2. Discovery
The Loial team conducted an exhaustive site-survey at their largest hospital over several days by physically visiting each network closet and their data center. This survey helped us understand what was in place currently and determine what additional work, if any, would be needed to replace their older network equipment.

3. Solution
We developed a solution to upgrade their network hardware while utilizing existing fiber, rack, and power infrastructure to minimize the cost to the organization. This included moving to the Cisco 9300 line of network hardware and adding in the ability to move their links between access and core from 1GBps to 10Gbps as needed in the future.

4. Implementation
Working with the IT director and the organization change management team we implemented the upgrade of over 50 network closets with minimal downtime or interruption. The process we followed allowed migration from the old to the new with just seconds of interruption to each connection as it was physically moved to the new hardware.

5. Measure Impact
Post-implementation included verifying connections and functionality of their new network hardware over the course of several days, working with the IT teams to address any reported issues, and providing information on the newly installed hardware to their asset management and monitoring teams.

Conclusion
Through strategic deployment of Cisco hardware and infrastructure optimization, Loial successfully upgraded more than 50 network closets with virtually no downtime. The transition increased bandwidth potential from 1Gbps to 10Gbps, ensuring the network can scale with the organization’s future demands. This collaboration highlights Loial’s precision, technical expertise, and commitment to helping healthcare organizations build resilient, high-performance network environments.
